Make Backups
Make Frequent Backups of critical data and programs and keep several versions. For example, keep a backup that is a week old, a month old, two months old, and so on.
Backup new software immediately after installation. Write-protect disks used for installing a program to prevent any virus from being copied to the floppies. |

Limit Access to Your Computer
Don't let other people run or load software on your system without your consent.
Control access to your computer by locking it or putting a password program on it. |

Use Software From Reliable Sources
Well-known sources such as CompuServe and Genie carefully check their software. You can feel comfortable downloading programs from them.
Be careful about downloading a program from a bulletin board run by a hobbyist. Judge each bulletin board for yourself.
If you purchase public domain or shareware disks, verify that the dealer is a member of a professional organization, such as the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). |

Limit Electronic Mail

Spy-ware can really slow down your computer and add unnecessary stress to your life. Be sure to use a popup blocker, install the latest updates for your computer, and obtain a spy-ware scanner. We use and recommend Lavasoft Ad-Aware.
If you feel you have spy-ware, you can always contact us and we will use every method we have to remove it for you. |

Be Cautious When Exchanging Software
Be cautious when exchanging software between computers at work or between your home computer and your office computer. People at work may not be careful about protecting their computers. |

Use a Virus Check Program (Virus Scanner)
Install and use a good antivirus program such as Norton Antivirus or PC-cillin.
Visit http://housecall.antivirus.com for an online virus scanner that we recommend customers to use once in a while (and it's free!!). If you have a virus scanner on your computer already, you will more than likely have to disable it for this to work. Two virus scanners on a computer can conflict with each other and cause chaos. |
